App Info : AQuA to launch Quality App Directory at #AppsWorld - Developer Tech

The App Quality Alliance (AQuA) is announcing
the launch of the Quality App Directory, its
newest initiative next week at Apps World in
London on 2-3 October. It’s calling for
Android developers to get involved,
demonstrating the quality of their apps by
implementing a recommended set of testing
criteria and adding their apps to the directory.

The directory will constitute a kind of kite
mark for quality, so inclusion will be a mark of
respectability for developers. For instance,
enterprise customers and consumers can
browse the directory, safe in the knowledge
that only apps that have met quality standards will be listed.

Developers creating apps, either for enterprise or consumer use, can improve their development process by applying AQuA’s testing criteria and following their best practice guidelines. And for a marketing agency or enterprise IT departments commissioning apps, AQuA provides quality standards that can be applied to any project.

Gadget /e-book Reader: 'The Nook' - too late to catch the Kindle?

The e-reader and tablet markets are
sorted, right? Amazon owns the e-
reader business with its Kindle, Apple's
iPad dominates in tablets, with a bit of
room at the cheaper end for Google's
Nexus and the Kindle Fire. But a giant US
book chain begs to differ.

Barnes and Noble has unveiled its plans for an
assault on the UK market this morning. It will
be offering British customers its Nook range of e-readers, along with new colour tablet
computers, the Nook HD and the Nook HD+.
I had a briefing earlier this week, and got a
chance to look at the devices. At first glance
they seem worthy competitors to the Kindles,
iPads and Nexuses. The Nook Simple Touch
Glowlight, for instance, is a touchscreen e-
reader with an inbuilt light which enables you
to read in bed in the dark without disturbing
your partner.

Backing up the impressive hardware is the
Barnes and Noble online store, offering 2.5
million books, all of the leading newspapers and magazines and plenty of movies and TV series.

Gadget India : iPhone 5 doing brisk business in India's grey market

The new Apple iPhone isn't in India
yet, officially. But as you read this, there are
people in Mumbai's Heera Panna Market and
Khan Market in Delhi shelling out upwards of Rs1.15 lakh, a little less than the price of a Tata Nano car, for the shiny new glass-and-
aluminium device, according to traders in these markets.

While you can actually drive the car around
once you pay the price, those shelling out this
neat sum can't just start making calls. They
have to jump through hoops to make their SIM
card fit the phone's specifications.

The iPhone 5 has a slot for a so-called nano
SIM. In the absence of telcos offering this card, users have to cut the SIM to size and use sandpaper or other abrasives to finely shave off thickness - a process so fraught with the risk of ruining your SIM card that most experts advise users against it.

top cyclists, a new 'life saver' bike helmet that connects with your phone and alerts emergency services in case of an accident is set to hit the markets soon.

The potentially life saving smartphone app, which can detect a crash and then alert the emergency services, has been designed for bike riders.

The clever application pairs through Blue-tooth with a motion detector which is attached to the rider's helmet and senses the crash.

Daily Mail reported.

App Map info : Missing directions: Will Apple's old maps app live on forever?

For those who haven't yet upgraded to
Apple's iOS 6, or who can't upgrade because
they're using an older device, there's an air
of uncertainty about just how long they'll
get to be able to use one of its most useful
features.

That feature is maps, something that used
to be powered by Google in iOS versions 1
to 5, but which now uses data from Apple in
iOS 6.

Love it or hate it, Apple Maps are here to
stay. But can you say the same about the
old version? Neither company is willing to say. An Apple spokesperson declined to comment on the terms or expiration of the deal between it and Google. Google did not respond to a request for comment.

Health app Info : Accessing Medical Records via Android Apps - Phone Reviews

Android mobile devices are extremely popular
and have made accessing a great deal of
information quickly possible. They are easy to
use, and can make even saving a life possible.
There are millions of apps available for the
Android phones that can be used to help
education people and offer a large amount of
accessibility to those that may need to have
instant access to a specific type of
information.
Android Apps
There is literally millions of Android apps that
are available on the market today. Some are
helpful such as the navigational apps, dining
apps, calculators, and so much more. Other
apps are just created in order to pass the time
such as many of the gaming apps that are
currently available for your Android and the
dozens more that are being created every day.
There are also apps that can help save a life.
There are apps that can teach you how to do
the Heimlich maneuver, CPR apps, and first aid
apps. These apps can walk you through the
process of having to perform some of these
tasks on yourself or another individual, and in a
pinch they can save your life or someone close
to you.
The Android mobile device is a great thing to
have, and it can be used for all different types
of purposes. It is a cross between a phone and
a computer, hence the name Smartphone. The
Android has even taken it one step further and
has become an excellent source for
professionals such as doctors. Doctors no
longer have to lug around tape records to
record their notes, or try to read the scribble
on a medical chart. There is now the possibility
for doctors to make notes and access
information via a Smartphone or tablet. This is
not only extremely convenient, but it is much
more efficient on time and accessibility.

for anyone that may be working with a patient
such as a doctor or nurse. A lot of information
in a patient’s medical records are extremely
important, and having instant access to the
records for a doctor could me the difference
between life and death of a patient.
Now, there are apps available that will allow
you to access the medical records of an
individual patient. These records are not open
to the public, and the doctor must have an
account, which is authorized by the company.
The doctor will need the have the app
downloaded to their mobile device and have am
up-to-date account in order to access patient
information. The doctor will be able to
research the patient by name, or can scan the
barcode that appears on their wristband in
order to track down the medical records. It is
a great way to get the information that a
doctor may need in a hurry, but does not
sacrifice the patience/doctor confidentiality.

App Info : Apex Launcher v1.3.1 fixes FC problem, brings more features and improvements

When developers release new versions of their software, the last thing that customers expect is for the app to cause more problems than it did before the update instead of bringing improvements. This is exactly what happened to Apex Launcher.

Version 1.3 of Apex Launcher, which was

all the wrong reasons. Customers reported in

the FC issue was quickly offered in v1.3.1,
which you can now download on Google Play.

Google says Maps not waiting in wings for iPhone 5 - Times LIVE

Apple launched its own mapping service earlier this month when it began providing the highly anticipated update to its mobile software platform iOS 6 and started selling the iPhone 5.

But users have complained that Apple’s new map service, based on Dutch navigation
equipment and digital map maker TomTom
NV’s data, contains glaring geographical
errors and lacks features that made Google
Maps so popular.

“We think it would have been better if
they had kept ours. But what do I know?”
Google’s Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt
said told a small group of reporters in Tokyo.
“What were we going to do, force them not
to change their mind? It’s their call.”
Schmidt said Google and Apple were in constant communication ”at all kinds of levels.” But he said any decision on whether Google Maps would be accepted as an application in the Apple App Store would have to be made by Apple.

App Info : Indian Developers Now Allowed To Sell Paid Apps In Google Play Store

Google has given Indian developers a reason to smile. The Android maker has allowed the Indian developers to sell paid apps in the Google Play Store. Earlier, they were allowed only to distribute free apps in the Play Store.

This will help Indian developers monetise on
their work and advertisement will not remain
the sole source of their revenue. The change
came to light when Google updated the
‘supported locations for merchants’ page
of Google Play Store for Developers help
section. This will give the Indian developers an
opportunity to try their hands on Android
platform and we can hope to see some really
cool apps from the Indian community in the
days to come.
The developers need to register as Google
Checkout merchants to begin selling their paid
apps in the Google Play Store. Only after that,
they will be able to list paid apps in the Play
Store. However, some developers who have
tried their hands on the feature inform that
Google is currently not supporting a seller
account from this location.

Tech /App Info : Apple Maps Lose Way With IPhone App Victim to Google Clash

The latest casualty of Apple Inc.’s war with Google Inc. in the mobile-phone market is one of the most widely used features of the iPhone: maps.

New mapping software Apple is introducing this week with the iPhone 5 was criticized by
technology gadget reviewers, who said it
doesn’t provide directions for public
transportation and sometimes gets confused
when navigating users.

“Apple believes that they can deliver a
better experience for customers than
Google,” said Sarah Rotman Epps, an analyst
at Forrester Research. “But in the short
term, Google has a better mapping application,
and iPhone customers will suffer.”

Apple, which is touting the map features as a
key software change in the iPhone 5, built its
navigation application amid a growing battle
with Google, which had provided its Google
Maps program since the iPhone was introduced in 2007.

App Info : Facebook adds in-app SMS, makes design changes in Android app update

Facebook is hitting its mobile stride with
several new feature announcements today. In
addition to offering photo syncing for Android
devices, the social network is rolling out an
additional update to both the Android Facebook app and Android Facebook Messenger app.

Among the updates included is an in-app
texting feature. For Android smartphone owners, the Facebook Messenger app now
has the option to text friends directly from within app itself. It’s the latest in a recent line of steps that Facebook has taken to house all forms of communication under its own roof. Now on Facebook Messenger, users can send or receive SMS messages, native Facebook messages, and even emails using
the @facebook.com addresses that were allocated to every user months ago.

It’s no secret that Facebook has been trying hard to transform it’s platform into the destination for communication; users already spend hours upon hours doing using it for these means as is. Of course the motivation for Facebook here is that the longer users spend on the site, the higher the chances that Facebook has to earn advertising revenue from its users. Of course, migrating all things to mobile is priority number one over at Facebook, so this new implementation makes all too much sense.

Indian scientists find a way out of PTSD - dnaindia.com/mobile

Scientists from Bangalore-based National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS)
have found a treatment for the debilitating
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), opening the avenue for therapeutic strategies to be developed to effectively manage the condition.

PTSD is a condition which affects those who
experience a catastrophe, or those who witness it, and can even occur among friends or family members of those who went through the actual trauma. The condition involves upsetting memories of the event, nightmares, and feeling of intense physical reactions to reminders of the event that leads to pounding of the heart, rapid breathing, nausea, muscle tension and
sweating, and can throw life out of gear for the affected persons. With accidents and
catastrophes, natural or man-made, affecting people regularly, PTSD has become common condition, increasingly seen among combat veterans and soldiers who have experienced bloody wars.

Health Info : Cutting down on red meat lowers Heart disease, Diabetes

Apart from lowering the incidence of
heart disease, diabetes, and bowel
cancer by three to 12%, the minimising of
consumption of red and processed meat will also shrink the carbon footprint by 28 million tonnes a year,a new research suggests.

Evidence shows that risks of coronary heart
disease, type 2 diabetes, and bowel cancer rise by 42%, 19% and 18% respectively, with every additional 50 grams of red and processed meat eaten daily.

Study co-authors Louise M Aston, James N
Smith and John W Powles from the University of Cambridge, Institute of Public Health, used
responses to the 2000-2001 British National
Diet and Nutrition Survey to estimate red and
processed meat intake across the country's

They published data from life cycle analyses to quantify average greenhouse gas emissions for 45 different food categories, the British Medical Journal Open reported.

Health Info : Fish oil 'doesn’t cut heart disease risk'

Researchers have found that supplementation with omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids
is not associated with a lower risk of all-cause death, cardiac death, sudden death,
heart attack or stroke.

Evangelos C Rizos and colleagues from the
University Hospital of Ioannina, Ioannina, Greece, performed a large-scale synthesis
of the available randomized evidence on 70,000 patients by conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the association between omega-3 PUFAs and major cardiovascular outcomes.

Weight-loss surgery may help prevent risk of diabetes - dnaindia.com/mobile

Washington, DC: n a study, researchers have
found that bariatric surgery reduces the long- term risk of developing diabetes by over 80 percent among people with obesity.

Conducted by Professor Lars Sjostrom,
Professor Lena Carlsson and their team at
Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, the study observed that bariatric surgery is considerably more effective than traditional care and lifestyle changes in preventing diabetes among people with obesity.

The treatment group consisted of 1,658 subjects who had undergone bariatric surgery, while the control group consisted of 1,771 equally obese people who had received traditional care. During 15-year follow-up, 392 people in the control group and only 110 people in the treatment group developed diabetes.

Health Info : Gutka’s ill-effects go beyond Cancer

The biggest argument made against the
consumption of gutka, and rightly so, is
that it is the leading cause of oral cancer across the country.

But what is perhaps often overlooked when
speaking of the health impact of gutka addiction is a host of other medical problems that the continued consumption of the substance can cause.

According to Dr Pankaj Chaturvedi, head
and neck cancer surgeon at Tata Memorial Centre, gutka and even pan masala, apart from containing cancer causing agents like tobacco and areca nut, also contain many non-food grade agents and chemicals that can cause a variety of medical conditions, from heart attack to infertility.

“Gutka contains heavy amounts of magnesium as well as calcium carbonate which are very toxic chemicals,” said Dr Chaturvedi.

Health Info : Exercise helps you cope with stress, anxiety

Moderate exercise not only keeps one fit
and healthy but also helps him or her to cope with anxiety and stress, suggests a new study.

"While it is well-known that exercise improves mood, not as much is known about the potency of exercise's impact on the emotional state," explains J. Carson Smith, assistant professor of Kinesiology, University of Maryland School of Public Health, who led the study.

"We found that exercise helps to buffer the
effects of emotional exposure. If you exercise, you'll not only reduce your anxiety, but you'll be better able to maintain that reduced anxiety when confronted with emotional events," said Smith, the journal Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise reports.

Health Info : 'White bread' myths debunked

London: Most of the half-baked warnings about
the dangers of eating bread are just myths and
people are missing out on vital vitamins and
minerals by removing it from their daily diet,
experts have warned.
Consumption of bread has fallen after two
decades of claims that bread causes bloating,
sparks weight gain, and that wheat allergies are
on the rise.
The research was carried out by nutrition
scientist Dr Aine O’Connor, based at the
British Nutrition Foundation in central London.
The study found that standard sliced white
bread had been unfairly “demonised” by
health campaigners and TV nutritionists.

Tech Info : How to get Twitter's new Facebook-like cover photo

Twitter’s updated your profile design
again, only nine months after its last face lift.

Users’ new Twitter profiles now includes
a Facebook/Google+-like cover image and
repositioned profile image.

The new striking design is being rolled out
today to all users (find out below how to get it below). The option to add/change the banner
image will be available under the Design link in Settings.

Twitter’s new design across multiple devices Announcing the new design Twitter was keen to point out how well the new layout looks on mobile devices. This isn’t surprising since Twitter is getting a significant proportion of its impressions from mobile devices. Indeed, the smaller profile section and the concentration of users’ bio and profile picture suggest this design was done with mobile in mind.

How to get it now?

App Latest Info : Twitter revamps its iPad app for expanded content, adds header photos and image streams

Twitter's iPad app is sometimes the
neglected stepchild of its mobile app family: newer features usually come to the Android and iPhone versions first and are handed down to the iPad later, if they come at all.

The company is making amends for that in style with a major update to the iPad
version as of today. Whether you like
them or not, expanded tweets are now baked in and will optionally show some photos, videos and web links within the timeline rather than disrupting the entire experience. The Connect, Discover and Me sections we've seen elsewhere also come to the tablet-tuned app, albeit at the expense of more quickly finding direct messages and lists.

App Info : Messaging Apps Show Mobile Internet’s Rise in Asia :: EDGE on the Net

SEOUL, South Korea - A handful of smartphone
apps that began as basic instant messaging
services have amassed several hundred million
users in Asia in just a couple of years,
mounting a challenge to the popularity of online
hangouts such as Facebook as they branch into
games, e-commerce, celebrity news and other
areas.
Among them is Line, which has grown to 60
million users, mostly in Asia including at least
29 million in Japan. Its developer estimates the
number of users will reach 100 million by the
end of this year. Also popular is Kakao Talk
with 60 million users, more than half in South
Korea where it originates. Other successful
messengers are Nimbuzz made by an India-
based firm which has amassed 100 million
users including 31 million in Asia, and WeChat
by China-based Tencent, which is nearing 200
million users.
The rapid growth of such applications
underlines that people are increasingly going
online using mobile phones and other wireless
devices. It is a trend that has proved
problematic for the world’s most popular
social networking site. Facebook has lost more
than $50 billion of its market value since its
initial public offering largely due to doubts
about its ability to successfully insert
advertising into the mobile version that a large and growing number of its 955 million users access from smartphones.

Don't dump that extra PC -- turn it into an instant second display with Avatron Software's new Air Display for Windows® - Business Review USA

Upgrading your PC or switching from
Windows® to Mac®? Spare the landfill and get
yourself more screen space by using your old
PC as an additional monitor with mobile app
developer Avatron Software's new version of
Air Display for Windows. Now you've got extra
real estate on your PC for the PowerPoint
presentation, one for the Word doc and another
to monitor email or social networks. The PC
joins the iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Android
smartphones and tablet to extend your desktop
— wirelessly — for enhanced productivity
and mobility.
Regardless of how it's used, Air Display —
like all Avatron productivity apps — blurs the
boundaries between personal computers, mobile
devices and the cloud:
Business: Move all of your iWork and Office
tool palettes and inspector windows onto the
extra screen, and let your document fill the
main screen.
Fill your second display with essential apps
like Outlook, Mail, social networks, and more.
Graphic design: Make Photoshop and
Illustrator usable on your laptop by putting
your tool palettes on the second display.
Music: Use your extra PC as the ultimate
control surface for Logic or Pro Tools with
always-on access.
Programming: Use the extra display area for
such auxiliary development tools
Photography: Hold a live feed on one screen;
adjust lighting with the other.
Keep that second PC working for you as an
external monitor, rather than adding to the
landfill and get more mileage out of
depreciated computers.

A new phone app will alert friends, family
and law enforcement if you’re being sexually assaulted on a date.

LifeLine Response, currently available for
the iPhone and Android, is marketing itself
to women who date online. It allows users

The app, which costs $3.99 for a 45-day trial, even has a celebrity spokeswoman: MTV’s April Rose, a Maxim model who
stars on “Guy Code” and who says she was assaulted by an acquaintance on a date when she was 17.

Gadget /Tech Review - New Kindle Fire: It's better, but not best

Amazon is upping its game in the color tablet
market. Last year, it launched the 7-inch
Kindle Fire, a pretty good, but limited, device
mostly distinguished by its low price of $199
and its seamless access to Amazon's massive
ecosystem of e-books, music, videos and
periodicals.

Now, Amazon has come up with a successor,
the Kindle Fire HD, which comes in two screen
sizes, 7 inches and 8.9 inches (the iPad's screen
is 9.7 inches, by comparison). Again, I see the
key advantages of these new Fires as low base
prices and easy access to Amazon's content
offerings. The 7-inch model, while beefed up,
still starts at $199 and the larger version at $
299. By contrast, the latest iPad starts at $
499, though the older iPad 2 is still available at $399.

App Info : How To Sideload Android Apps | Gizmodo Tech

Google Play won’t let you install apps to your device if it is deemed‘incompatible’ due to screen size, while others apps are made available only for specific handsets. In both cases, you may be able to get around that through a manual installation, a process often referred to as “sideloading”. Here’s how to do it.

Make Use Of outlines the relatively simple
steps involved in sideloading apps to your
Android device. The most difficult stage is
usually getting hold of a copy of the APK file
for the app you wish to install. These can often
be found on forums or developer sites, but be
cautious; installing an unknown APK file poses a
clear and definite security risk.
Once you’ve obtained the file you need to
connect your phone or tablet to your computer
via USB, turn on USB storage mode and copy
the APK to your device.

App Info : Google hits back at Alibaba on 'non-compatible' Android phone

A spat between Google
Inc. and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. continued
Sunday when a Google executive again criticized
the Chinese e-commerce giant for trying to
launch a phone that had a "non-compatible"
version of Google's Android system.
In a post on his Google+ social network page
Sunday, Andy Rubin, Google's senior vice
president of mobile and digital content, shot
back at an Alibaba executive, "if you want to
benefit from the Android ecosystem, then make
the choice to be compatible."
The wrangling was sparked when Taiwan-based
Acer Inc. abruptly canceled a joint-press
conference it was to hold with Alibaba in
Shanghai on Sept. 13 to unveil the Acer
CloudMobile A800, which runs on Alibaba's
latest operating system, Aliyun O.S. 2.0.
According to Alibaba, Acer's last minute
cancellation of the press event was due to
direct pressure from Google, which claimed
that Aliyun used modified Android software
-- making it non-compatible.

Unbelievable Tech Info : Scientists Create Invisible Nano Barcode

Now, here is a
new research that adds an extra layer of
security over existing methods in the fight
against fake banknotes and counterfeiting.
Scientists at the University of South Dakota
and South Dakota School of Mines and
Technology have developed an invisible version
of square modern barcodes using nanoparticles
and fluorescent ink. It is interesting to note
here that the invisible QR (quick response) code
can only be seen under laser light.
The researchers have come up with an
innovative way to print blocks of black and
white QR codes (common in marketing) with

India Cable TV Digitisation: 2 minute blackout on TV from today till Sunday

Starting today till Sunday, four metros -
Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, will have to
brace themselves for a two-minute blackout
on television, as broadcasters make attempts
to convince viewers to make the switch to
digital signal before the pre-set deadline. The
Times of India now reports that on Friday,
Saturday and Sunday, all broadcasters will
switch off transmission, at the same time at
7:58 pm, 8:58 pm and 9:58 pm to make way for
an advertisement in both Hindi and English.
The 30-second advertisement that will play
across channels, will essentially remind
viewers across the four metros to install a
set-top box before the deadline, or just forego
the idea of viewing television. The report
confirms further that the advertisement will
end with a brief warning in English, “Go
digital or go blank”, and in Hindi, “Set top
box lagayein ya TV bhool jayein".

Tech /Gadget Info : Unlocked iPhone 5 not available in US at launch, to start at $649

Apple’s recently launched iPhone 5 surely
packs in a lot of features and would make
most Apple fans water at the mouth. But it is
available in the US only via three carriers:
AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. For people with
connections on other carriers or with GSM
connections, an unlocked version of the iPhone
is the only way out. But if you’re looking to
buy an unlocked iPhone 5, here’s some good
news for you: Apple’s website now shows
the pricing for the unlocked version of the
newest iPhone.
As first noticed by TechCrunch, the Apple
website shows the pricing as $649 for the 16
GB version, $749 for the 32GB version, and $
849 for the high-end 64GB version. However,
The Verge reports that the unlocked version
won’t be available for at least a few weeks
in the US. Unlike the locked version of the
iPhone 5, the unlocked phones can’t even be
pre-ordered starting today. What’s more,
they won’t be available when the iPhone 5
hits Apple retail stores on September 21.
However, as the iPhone sells unlocked in
Canada, residents of the country can order it
from day one.

Health /App Info : Are Apps the New Buzzword Within Autism Community?

An iPad and Android app for young learners with autism had a massive spike in terms of the number of downloads last week, registering a whopping 1300% increase from the week before.

Notably, the new academic season set rolling
on September 4 in a majority of school
districts in the United States. On Tuesday,
September 4, there were 17 downloads of
iLearnNEarn – seven more than what the
previous day’s count showed. However,
figures rocketed from September 5 onwards,
with 55 downloads on Wednesday, September 5; 91 on Thursday, September 6; 76 on Friday,
September 7; 89 on Saturday, September 8 and 71 on Sunday, September 9. The week’s final tally was 409, compared to a meager 31 hits during the preceding week.

iLearnNEarn is billed as a robust and
evidence-based special needs education model
comprising a series of apps and an integrated
apps library specifically built to help children
with autism develop life skills that are
essential to attain a certain level of
independence. Created by WebTeam Corporation– one of New Jersey’s premier technology companies – iLearnNEarn uses the core principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA) to help parents and teachers deliver intense intervention to autistic children. A key benefit of the program is that it comes with a built-in tracking system.

Tech Journal: Why Nexus 7 Beats the iPad - India Real Time - WSJ

In a market flooded with Android tablets,
Nexus 7 was attractive buy, says Amit
Agarwal, the labnol.org Writer/Owner.

I purchased both my iPad and my mobile phone
– the first generation Galaxy S, which runs on Google GOOG -0.19%’s Android OS – about two years ago. While Apple AAPL +1.39% has consistently delivered software updates for the iPad (including the first generation models) Samsung 005930.SE +3.03% nearly abandoned its device after releasing the Gingerbread
update (Android 2.3).

Samsung Galaxy S was the best-selling phone
at the time but it never really won my heart.
The phone wasn’t very responsive and apps
would often crash. Some of these issues are
probably related to Android, but I always found myself spending more time on the iPad than the phone — iOS felt more polished and
responsive than Android.

Earlier this week I decided to give Android
another try. I got myself a Nexus 7, a seven
inch Android tablet manufactured by Asus and
sold directly by Google. The base model costs
just $199 on the Google Play store. Google
won’t ship the device to India but you can
easily find one on eBay EBAY -0.70% and
various other Indian shopping websites, for a
premium of course.

App /iPhone Hot Info : New Apple software to get maps Siri update

Not ready for a new iPhone? Don’t worry. Many software features are coming to older iPhones as well.

Apple has said that its iOS 6 software will
sport more than 200 new features, though
some won’t be available on all devices. The
new features include an updated mapping
service and better integration with Facebook.
On Wednesday, Apple showed off the virtual
assistant Siri giving driving directions. Siri
will also let you post Facebook status updates
you speak out to her.

There’s also an enhancement to email, so you can deem certain people “VIPs” and locate emails from them more easily.

As announced in June, iOS 6 will be a free
upgrade for iPhones released since 2009 —
the 3GS, 4 and 4S models. It will also be
available on last year’s and this year’s
iPad models and newer iPod Touch devices.

Tech /App Info : Context is the new battleground between Android and iOS

Contextual apps arrived at Techcrunch Disrupt.
It’s not just Google Now that shows you
information about your next meeting, either. I
saw a bunch of cool apps that are using context
and I kept hearing that iOS is behind.
Here, listen in as I talk with the team behind
Maluuba, which is a new way to search,
organize, and connect on your phone. Think of a
new Siri.
Maluuba isn’t the only company that has told
me that iOS is behind. Glympse‘s CEO, Bryan
Trussel, told me his team develops its
contextual mapping app on Android first, then
moves it to iPhone.
Why is this?

Health Info : People with kidney stones likelier to need dialysis or transplant | Health News | Health Research | Diet & Weight Loss Tips| Health Products | Medicines & Drugs | Health.India.com

Kidney stones could double the risk of dialysis
or kidney transplant later in life for people
who have had them, says a study. University of Alberta faculty of medicine and dentistry
researchers Todd Alexander and Marcello
Tonelli tracked data of more than three million Albertans over an 11-year period from 1997 to 2009. They discovered those with a history of kidney stones were twice as likely to have
serious kidney problems later in life when
compared to people who had never suffered
from kidney stones, the British Medical Journal
reported.
Women under the age of 50 years who had a
history of kidney stones were four times as
likely to later develop kidney failure. Although
the actual number of those who developed
kidney failure was small, the link to having a
history of kidney stones was noteworthy,
according to a university statement. ”I think
what these results tell me, is that we should
be screening those with a history of kidney
stones for risk factors for the development of
kidney disease,” said Alexander, study co-
author and practising paediatric nephrologist.
