The Doncaster company has already built up
a solid e-learning business by developing games designed to encourage children aged seven to 16 to revise by linking the level of game and the strength, powers or other attributes the playing character has to how well the child has answered a number of revision questions.
The company decided to convert its web-based games to apps after research showed school children were making increasing use
of mobile devices.

PayPal has introduced a fun little update to
their Android application in the Play Store this evening. No, there wasn’t the usual bug fixes, or improved device support. PayPal
simply spiffed up the UI of their app, making it more simple and easy to use than ever.
There’s only 3 main options here, folks:
account, sending, and receiving. The options are displayed in tabs along the top of the app and while I dig the new look, it was a bit odd that you couldn’t swipe between the 3 tabs.
PayPal did mention landscape is coming in a
future update, so maybe they’ll throw in
some swiping gestures while they’re at it.

Archos has announced a product that brings
something a little different to the increasingly overcrowded Android tablet space. The GamePad takes the common 7-inch form factor and adds physical controls for a more traditional - and potentially less frustrating - gaming experience.
Archos has a history of releasing a procession of somewhat underwhelming and underpowered tablet devices. However, while the GamePad's dual-core 1.5 GHz processor is unlikely to break any records, the new form factor might just make the company's latest effort worth a look.
The GamePad couples the dual-core CPU
with a Mali 400mp quad-core GPU to add a little more power to the device. Putting this into perspective, Google's Nexus tablet, also a 7- inch system, features a quad-core Tegra 3 processor and a 12-core GPU. Garmin has unveiled updates to its Navigon and StreetPilot Onboard apps with two features geared toward city landscapes. The company's new Urban Guidance tool provides detailed information on public transportation routes, while its Last Mile feature is designed to help pedestrians park and locate their cars.
Urban Guidance integrates bus, train, tram, and water taxi routes into Garmin's apps, as well as information on necessary transfers for a given itinerary. Public transit routes will also be color coded according to each city's maps, making it easier for users to better orient themselves at a given stop.

Android App Info : Heartbroken app-maker Qt sneaks into Android's bed
The effort towards a Qt library for Android is progressing, with a fourth and final alpha
release being sent out the door – despite
confidence in the platform having steadily
eroded since Nokia dumped it.
Qt is a library of cross-platform APIs which
enables even complicated apps, such as VLC's
VideoLAN, to run across operating systems.
Nokia bought the owning company, Trolltech,
back in 2008, then dumped the technology
earlier this month. The move left Qt with an
uncertain future, but seemingly a future which includes Android.
Qt ended up with Digia, who took on the 125
Nokia engineers still working on the project.
Digia promised to keep the momentum going,
with a new version of Qt scheduled to come
out later this month, but that's for desktop
systems, not phones. Qt-on-Android is a community effort, developing an Android library as an open source
project under the moniker " Necessitas", and
optimistically promising to deliver on Nokia's
dream of having Qt apps running on a billion
devices, though the entreaties to get involved
do smack a little of desperation:

Google’s Nexus 7 worries me. As an iPad
and BlackBerry PlayBook owner, I’ve been
snobbish towards genuine Android tablets.
Now, and as the Nexus 7 gently lands on my
desk, I’ve seen the light. If you’re going
to own a tablet, it should be this one. Thin,
light and fast, this is everything the upcoming
iPad Mini should be. But it’s the unique
“Googleness” of the tablet that warms
me to it.
Screen test
Here’s the thing: The 800×1280, 216 PPI,
multi-touch Corning Gorilla Glass display is
exceptional. It’s all about the screen in
fact. For once, here’s a tablet that’s
unconcerned with physicality. It just “is”
and the zen-like design bleeds through into
every facet of the Nexus 7.
The delectable home screen
The screen’s clearer than the majority of
7-inchers I’ve had my hands on. This
includes the Kindle Fire, PlayBook and the
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0. It bleeds class, it
stinks of it. I won’t compare this to an
upscaled iPhone 4S screen (that’s
impossible at 320 PPI) but in terms of
sharpness and the buttery-smooth interface,
it comes pretty close to nailing how a tablet
screen should look.

Bitdefender has re-released Clueful -this time as a web app - to inform users of the privacy implications of various iOS apps.
One of the differences between Android and iOS is that Google Play presents detailed
information about the permissions requested by an app (eg, access to the contacts list, GPS
location), whereas the iTunes Store doesn't.
Security vendor Bitdefender has moved to
redress that with Clueful, a web app that
describes potential privacy violations by iOS
apps.
For example, it shows that the official
Facebook app can read your Address Book,
could track your location, connects to Facebook (well, yes...) and encrypts stored data. Other characteristics noted include warnings of apps that access calendars, drain a device's battery, overly target users with ads, or track and aggregate the owner’s usage through multiple analytics networks.

Adobe's decision to stop distributing Android
Flash Player to new users via Google Play by
creating malware and adware apps that
masquerade as Flash Player installers.
Since Aug. 15, Android users who didn't
already have Flash Player installed on their
devices could no longer obtain it from Google
Play.
This is the result of Adobe's decision to phase
out Android Flash Player in favor of Adobe
AIR, a cross-platform runtime environment
that enables developers to package native apps
for different mobile platforms and devices.
"Of course, it's possible that some Android
users have missed that deadline, so they
venture on to other parts of the Internet in
search of alternative download sites," Jovi
Umawing, a communications and research
analyst at GFI Software, said Wednesday in a

WordFeud – it’s the poor man’s
Scrabble...
I was gutted when I found out my stupid phone was ‘incompatible’ for the real Scrabble app, settling for the knockoff WordFeud instead.
But besides a couple of cons, and I am being
picky, I am delighted that my inner Word
Nerd is completely satisfied with this game.
Available on Android and iPhone, you can play a game of WordFeud with friends or random
opponents, playing multiple games at a time.
While the board is set up differently, all the
normal Scrabble rules apply. The dictionary
isn’t exactly the same so if you take the
Scrabble Dictionary as gospel, certain two-
letter words won’t fly on WordFeud.
The app is fast and easy to use but I haven’t bothered upgrading to the paid version to avoid ads because they hardly even bother you; to be honest I forget it even has ads.
It hasn’t crashed once, isn’t slow and

websites that the agency said were trafficking in pirated Android apps.
The domains - applanet.net, appbucket.net, and snappzmarket.com - are now in the custody of the federal government. Those who navigate to those sites are met with a note that says the domain has been seized by the FBI, as well as a warning about the penalties for piracy.
The DOJ said this is the first time U.S. officials have seized domains related to the illegal sale of cell phone apps. "Software apps have become an increasingly essential part of our nation's economy and creative culture, and the Criminal Division is committed to working with our law enforcement partners to protect the creators of these apps and other forms of intellectual property from those who seek to steal it," Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer
said in a statement.

US law enforcement officials have seizedthree websites that were allegedly distributing illegal
copies of copyrighted Android phone apps in the
first such operation against apps marketplaces.

Thankfully, I haven’t been in many automobile accidents. But the one
major crash I was in involving another driver, I took down quite a bit of information.
The accident wasn’t my fault. Nonetheless, I wanted to make sure the other driver
wouldn’t try to change his story after I
contacted his insurance company. I had my
reporter’s notebook handy and took down the guy’s driver’s license number, insurance information, home telephone number (it was long before cellphones were ubiquitous) and his home address. I even collected similar information from a witness to the accident.
When I called to report the crash, the claims
representative was impressed with how
thorough I had been. Turns out most of the information I gathered could have put the driver and the witness in jeopardy of identity theft, according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).

numbers released by Flurry Analytics suggests
that the duos market has been shrinking
significantly since 2009, while that of Android
and iOS games have been rising exponentially.

gaming on mobile was a modest 19% at the end
of that year. A year later, Android and iOS had
captured 34% of the market, Sony was left

changer as Android and iOS games took the lead
from Nintendo by capturing 58% of the market.

the newest player may just be my new favorite. Falcon for Twitter, now in beta, combines the standard timeline view with enough options and settings to make the obsessive compulsive Android user
ecstatic, while still fitting in with the Holo
theme of ICS and Jelly Bean beautifully. The
standard features include listing your mentions, retweets and private messages, and a quick and useful mobile view that opens links in a mini-browser without ever leaving your homescreen. This can be changed to open a standard Twitter app.
The interface is the real draw here. With three
themes and two layouts, it's sure to fit in with
whatever your UI or theme looks like. It's even
optimized for Jelly Bean; the notifications
expand just like the updated Gmail. Developer
Joaquim Vergès bills Falcon as a beta app, but
it's already remarkably stable on my Galaxy
Nexus. There's already been an update just a
day after it was posted to the Google Play
