Tech /App Info : Context is the new battleground between Android and iOS

Contextual apps arrived at Techcrunch Disrupt.
It’s not just Google Now that shows you
information about your next meeting, either. I
saw a bunch of cool apps that are using context
and I kept hearing that iOS is behind.
Here, listen in as I talk with the team behind
Maluuba, which is a new way to search,
organize, and connect on your phone. Think of a
new Siri.
Maluuba isn’t the only company that has told
me that iOS is behind. Glympse‘s CEO, Bryan
Trussel, told me his team develops its
contextual mapping app on Android first, then
moves it to iPhone.

Kidney stones could double the risk of dialysis
or kidney transplant later in life for people
who have had them, says a study. University of Alberta faculty of medicine and dentistry
researchers Todd Alexander and Marcello
Tonelli tracked data of more than three million Albertans over an 11-year period from 1997 to 2009. They discovered those with a history of kidney stones were twice as likely to have
serious kidney problems later in life when
compared to people who had never suffered
from kidney stones, the British Medical Journal
reported.
Women under the age of 50 years who had a
history of kidney stones were four times as
likely to later develop kidney failure. Although
the actual number of those who developed
kidney failure was small, the link to having a
history of kidney stones was noteworthy,
according to a university statement. ”I think
what these results tell me, is that we should
be screening those with a history of kidney
stones for risk factors for the development of
kidney disease,” said Alexander, study co-
author and practising paediatric nephrologist.

Islamabad, Sept 08 (ANI): External Affairs
Minister S M Krishna today met his Pakistani
counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar in Islamabad and
exchanged greetings. Krishna's talks with Khar
later in the day are billed as a stock-taking
exercise that will review the progress made in
the past round of official-level talks. Issues
like liberalized visa agreement and some
cross-LOC Confidence Building Measures or

In a time when apps seem to rule the world and businesses are measured by how well their customers engage with them via smartphone applications, should you build a one-size-fits- all HTML5 mobile web app or spend up big building 'native' apps for Android, iOS, Blackberry and Windows Phone?

HTML5, the latest "write once, run anywhere"
incarnation of the web's mark-up language
HTML, promises the ability to build cheaper,
richer, more interactive apps that run on any
mobile browser.
The question is again on the lips of many
developers and their clients after Facebook
last month went the other way, and replaced
large chunks of the embedded HTML5
code in its iOS app with Objective-C, the iOS
native code. Anyone who recently updated their
Facebook app on an iPhone or iPad would likely
have noticed faster load times and smoother
scrolling.

Around the same time, flexibility, cost and
pragmatism beat finesse when the Virgin
Active Australia chain of health clubs, scrapped
its free iPhone app in favour of an HTML5
mobile web app the company says was a no-

members to book classes and session times, in order to guarantee a spot.
