Picture 200 world-class athletes competing to make their country proud. Picture the hundreds and thousands of onlookers
cheering for their home team. Picture 300 events at numerous internationally acclaimed venues. Then, you can imagine what the 2012 Olympics will be like in London this year. Thirteen sports, fifty-four events, and nearly a hundred Indian sports men and women practicing to bring their homeland
some gold medals.

Not all of them are celebrities or have been
recognized for their efforts. Who has heard of Mary Kom, a woman boxer, or Jwala Gutta, a left-handed Indian badminton player, or Manoj Kumar, or Heena Sidhu for that matter… they are the little known faces of our country.

They live a life just like you and me. They do
not have hi-end brands to endorse them or
multi-national companies as supporters, nor do
they have the time to vie for the ultimate
sponsorship contract; they work by day and
practice by night to earn a living. Their sole
motivating goal is to win an Olympic medal, so
billions of people around the world will know
that India still has more to give; that India still
carries a wealth of untapped talent within its
shores.
Most of these unsung heroes can scarcely
afford to feed their families – let alone
afford the equipment required to compete in
the Olympics 2012 – and yet, they invest their
time, money and energy to bring pride to our
nation.
We call India to unite behind our heroes. We call
you to stand for India.
