Floh (Find Life Over Here) - www.floh.in is an invitation-only network of single people who enjoy an active lifestyle. Currently operational in Bangalore with 500 members, it plans to launch in Delhi and Mumbai soon. The four-month-old group provides an alternative to the sometimes stressful search for a spouse through the usual networks of family and friends and, in the past decade, matrimonial websites, by organizing interesting and interactive events where singles can mingle in relaxed settings while doing fun stuff.

It was started by Siddharth Mangharam, who has an MBA from the University of Michigan and worked at companies such as Microsoft and McKinsey & Co. in India and the US. He also founded mobile start-up Peek India before moving on to Floh.

He spoke about making dating safe for women
and why matrimonial websites just don't work for some people.
What made you launch Floh?
Floh was originally my wife Simran's idea. We
have a lot of single friends and we could see
them struggling to meet the right people, to
find places where they would bump into other
single people , and to avoid heartbreak. At the
same time, there is immense pressure from
friends and family to get married and attempts to get them to 'just go have coffee with so-and-so beta' , leading to uncomfortable 'interviews' at cafes. We decided to launch Floh because we saw a great business opportunity , and also to provide an alternative to the tried-and-tested ways that don't work for some people because they are put off by all the questions about caste/ sub-caste / gotra, etc.
That's not an important part of their identity
and they are not comfortable with such
systems.
