China's largest telecommunications and
networking equipment supplier is sharply eyeing
the Indian smartphone market. Besides the
Ideos, Sonic and a few other mobile phones, the
company also has the MediaPad tablet to its
kitty. Matching the likes of phones from
Samsung, Sony, Nokia in the sub-20K segment,
Huawei has recently introduced its flagship
smartphone—Honor. The name itself should
have given a lot of pride to the company but
will the handset concede the same to its users,

The Huawei Honor is powered by a 1.4 GHz
single core Qualcomm Scorpion processor and
512 MB RAM. Such a duo of processor and RAM
packed beneath this device give an above-
average smartphone experience. Running
multiple apps and switching between them is
also reasonably smooth. Alongside, the regular
features of 3G, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, micro-USB,
support for DLNA and Wi-Fi tethering come as
a handy advantage. The phone runs Android 2.3,
however the company offers update to Android
4.0 too.

Popular link shortening service, Bitly updated
their service, yesterday; and using the word
‘updated’ here is heavily downplaying it.
The site, if we may say so has now undergone
a major design and feature refresh and you
can now do a lot more in addition to just
shortening links. The service, in line with their
sentiments in their blog post - “We want
this to be the single best place for you to save
and share your links and to discover
interesting things from your friends and the
entire web,” now allows users to save their
favourite links (Bitly now calls them bitmarks,
like bookmarks), be it of their favourite
recipe, an interesting review, etc. and share
them with their contacts across Facebook and
Twitter.
To begin with, Bitly now allows you to save
and share bitmarks that as aforementioned
are essentially links, which you might want to
keep for going back to in the future. After a
basic log-in, through either Facebook or
Twitter, or a sign-up, one can find the ‘Add
the bitmark’ option on the top right corner
of their page. Here users need to paste the
URL to the article, video, song that they want
to add. Once done, the saved bitmarks appear
below on their page.
Users can then either ‘Add a note’ to this
bitmark, or ‘Share’ it with their contacts
and/or get a shortened link to the bitmark by
clicking on an icon that resembles an ‘i’.
Users, in addition to this can also add their
bitmarks to a bundle. Users can create several
bundles, comprising several links and organize
them, and/or share them with their contacts.

Jubilant FoodWorks has been on a long-term uptrend ever since its
initial public offer in February 2010. The stock has been forming
higher peaks and higher troughs since then.

Last week, the stock zoomed 9 per cent with
good volumes. Friday's 6 per cent surge accompanied by above-average volume was
crucial for the stock as it broke out of a key resistance at Rs 1,200,
which it was testing from April 2012. The stock is hovering well above
its 21- and 50-day moving averages.

Both the daily and weekly relative strength index are featuring in the
bullish zone implying upward momentum. The stock can prolong its
uptrend and encounter resistance at 1,300, a
psychological resistance in the medium-term.
Short-term supports are positioned at Rs.1,100 and Rs 1,000.

As long as the stock trades above Rs 950, its medium-term trend remains up. Next
significant supports are pegged at Rs 830 and
Rs 750. A decline below Rs 700 will be a threat to the stock's
long-term uptrend.

The stock's 7 per cent gain on Friday pushed its weekly gains to 12
per cent. After registering a 52-week low on May 18 at Rs 222, the
stock started to move higher. This up move is
triggered by a positive divergence in the daily and weekly moving
average convergence divergence indicator. Nevertheless, the stock is
facing significant long-term resistance at
Rs 270.

The stock's long and medium-term trends are down. A strong
breakthrough of Rs 270 will push the stock higher to Rs 300 and then
to Rs.320 in the forthcoming weeks. Important resistances above Rs 320
are at Rs 350 and Rs.368. A strong move above Rs 368 will alter the
stock's medium-term downtrend and push it higher to Rs 400 and to Rs
450. Conclusive
weekly close above Rs 520 is needed to change the stock's long-term
outlook to positive.

On the downside, a fall below Rs 222 will reinforce the stock's
downtrend and pave the way for a decline to Rs 200 and then to Rs 186
in the medium-term.

Google launches Business Photos in India

Google launched Business Photos in India,
a concept that puts businesses on the map –
virtually and literally. In a pilot run, Google will take 360 degree pictures of businesses and will allow owners to upload them to their location on Google Places.

Google India’s official blog talks about the
concept of taking pictures of business interiors to add to a business’ credibility. The concept stems off the idea that a business cannot always be judged by how its office looks on the outside.

After taking permission of the business owners who want their interiors to be photographed, Google’s certified Photographers will work directly with them. The 360 degree pictures of the interiors of businesses will be posted online via Google Places. This feature was originally available only to users in USA, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, France and UK.

Countries recently added to its kitty are
Ireland, Netherlands and Canada. Now the
service has been finally launched in India.
Google Places allows owners to promote their
businesses by providing detailed information to prospective customers, finding niche audiences and enhancing brand visibility through increased searchability.

Yet, with only 37 government institutions to
care for the mentally ill in a nation of more
than one billion people, there are limited long-term resources for families struggling to look after a relative who needs psychiatric
treatment. In northern India, there isn’t a
single government-run rehabilitation centre
where people with incurable mental ailments
can be admitted.

“For 18 years, I have cared for my son at
home because I do not have a choice,” said
Bhowmik. “It is not enough to give medicine
to patients suffering from schizophrenia. They require special care, which we cannot give at home, but I do not have the money to
institutionalize him in a private facility. I
don’t like to think about what will happen to him after I am gone.”

In the 1980s, the World Health Organization
released the startling findings of a two-part
study on mental illness: Patients suffering
from schizophrenia in developing countries such as India, Nigeria and Colombia had better long-term outcomes than those in developed
countries, which included Denmark, the US and Canada.

The culmination of decades of research, the
study examined long-term treatment of more
than 1,000 schizophrenic patients across 16
countries, concluding the greater levels of
acceptance, stronger social ties, and greater
family involvement more common in developing companies appeared to be “key positivefactors” linked to patient recovery.
While the study’s findings have been
criticized on the grounds that it may have
ignored patients locked away by families
concerned about the social stigma associated
with mental illness, it contained important
insights into its treatment.

BSNL To Slash 3G Data Charges By 75 Per
Cent. To add to the delight of customers, these new rates will be applicable on roaming
as well.

BSNL customers can now save substantially on their data charges. BSNL is going to slash 3G and 2G data usage charges for additional usage beyond free usage by 75 per cent from 4 paise/10 KB to 1paisa/10 KB, according to a Teleguru exclusive.

The existing data charge is 4 paise/10KB for
both 3G and 2G customers. This is for the
postpaid customers. Once the new rates get effective, BSNL customers will have to pay only 1paisa/10 KB for any additional data usage beyond the limited free usage or as per their subscribed plan. The new rates will be effective from 1 June. To add to the delight of customers, these new rates will be applicable on roaming as well.

Coming soon: An "electronic nose" application
for smart phones which could help doctors
diagnose an illness by analysing a person's
breath, say scientists.

A team at the California Institute of
Technology, led by chemistry professor Nate
Lewis, is trialling the technology what they call "sensory vapour technology" which could
detect odours like the human nose.
The aim is to manufacture a smart phone
attachment that works when used in
conjunction with an "electronic nose app", the

This week, Bangalore became the second 4G-
enabled city in the country after Kolkata
This week, amidst much fanfare, telecom major Airtel launched its 4G services in Bangalore, making it the second 4G-enabled city in the country after Kolkata.

Airtel's fourth generation mobile broadband
services are rolled out on the high-speed TD- LTE (Time Division Long-Term Evolution)
network. With this, India becomes one among
the few countries that have commercially
deployed this cutting-edge technology, believed to be one that will become the de-facto standard for 4G in coming years.

What is 4G?
4G is the next generation of mobile
communications that promises home broadband-like experience on wireless
networks. Currently, Airtel offers a connection through a dongle or a Wi-Fi gateway (priced at Rs. 7,999 and Rs. 7,550, respectively), so the focus is on data and services, with no voice and text capabilities as of now (unless over VoIP).

The mapping solution will be in-place for
the next major version of the mobile
operating system, combining technologies
gathered with the acquisition of
Placebase, C3 Technologies and Poly9.
Apple is constantly doing things to remove the Google effect as much as possible. In the latest, the IT giant is all set to remove the Google Maps from its iOS 6 and replace it with a competition. The name of the new app has not been made public yet.

9to5Mac is reporting that the mapping solution
will be in-place for the next major version of
the mobile operating system, combining
technologies gathered with the acquisition of
Placebase, C3 Technologies and Poly9.
The highlight of the new maps application is
being said to be the 3D mode with graphics
nabbed from C3. Another report from All
Things D has confirmed the forthcoming app
reinvention, with sources adding, that it will
blow your head off. However, we should get a
clear picture in WWDC, which is slated for next month.
