AUTOMOBILE NEWS - Be ready to pay additional duty for your big Diesel Cars

The Centre for Science and Environment has demanded an additional duty of up to Rs.162,000 on big diesel cars to prevent the misuse of
subsidised fuel for luxury.
While blaming the government for its inaction over the issue,the NGO also hit out at the auto
industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers(SIAM) and vehicle makers for "propagating false information" about diesel technology and

The deathbed is an inconvenient
place to compose your last
Facebook update. Frankly, at that

However, a new application for
the social media site called If I Die
gives people a chance to write
their final status update in
advance. Hopefully, long in
advance.
It works like this: After installing
the free app, a person chooses
three Facebook friends to be
"trustees" whose job is to verify
your eventual death. Once those
people are picked, the user can
then record videos or craft any
number of status updates that
will be published posthumously,
such as "Why didn't I spend
more time doing the mambo,"
"The pizza's better in heaven" or
"Can somebody tape 'The
Bachelor' for me?"

So this story from Pocket-Lint is
floating around the web today
that quotes Nokia’s CEO Stephen
Elop. Not that this should surprise
anyone coming from the guy that
is betting the bank on Windows
Phone 7, but he of course
referenced Android and this
mythical fragmentation problem
it has. He is quoted as saying that
he doesn’t want fragmentation
“being introduced” to Windows
Phone because “we are” starting
to see it “become a problem” in a
“certain other eco-system.” And
time for a rant…
I could go into how idiotic the
CEO of one of the biggest
companies in the world sounds
when making this argument, but
I’ll instead just throw some
numbers at you and let them do
the talking. According to
January’s Android distribution
chart, 86% of Android users are
running two variations of the
operating system: Gingerbread
and Froyo. The other 14% is a
mix of pre-Froyo phones that are
2-3 years old and will soon vanish
from the face of the Earth along
with Honeycomb that will also
disappear since this version of
Android essentially will no longer
be supported going forward. All
Honeycomb tablets will be
upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich
making the 3.0+ category in this
distribution chart go bye-bye.

: Researchers at the
University of Rhode Island have
found that eating faster
increases the amount of food
consumption. Results of their
two new studies revealed that
men eat significantly faster than
women, heavier people eat faster
than slimmer people, and refined
grains are consumed faster than
whole grains, among other
findings.
In one laboratory study, Kathleen
Melanson, URI associate
professor of nutrition, and her
lab team found that fast eaters
consumed about 3.1 ounces of
food per minute, medium-speed
eaters consumed 2.5 ounces per
minute, and slow eaters
consumed 2 ounces per minute.
The researchers also found what
Melanson described as “very
strong gender differences” in
eating rates. At lunch, the men
consumed about 80 calories per
minute while the women
consumed 52 calories per
minute.
The second study found a close
association between eating rate
and body mass index (BMI), with
those individuals with a high BMI
typically eating considerably
faster than those with a low BMI.
“One theory we are pursuing is
that fast eating may be related to
greater energy needs, since men
and heavier people have higher
energy needs,” said Melanson.

So you’re stuck in a hotel room,
or simply travelling a lot on work.
But ou’re also someone who
enjoys his/her visits to the gym
and doesn’t want this constant
travelling to put a break in your
training schedule—here’s a
routine that requires minimal
equipment. Just your body
weight, a mat/carpet, and 20
minutes.
The pillars of the following
programme rest on correct
execution, the way in which you
perform the exercises, the use of
compound movements (where
you use more than one muscle
group), and little or no rest
between exercises so that you
can keep your heart rate elevated
and challenge your
cardiovascular fitness. Change
the tempo and speed of the
workout to challenge yourself
even more if you have advanced
fitness levels. For example,
perform a basic push-up in the
1:3 ratio—one count to go down
and three to come up. This
makes you work harder as you
need to lift your body weight
against gravity at a much slower
speed and in a more controlled
form with correct posture and
execution—so your muscles have
to work a lot harder to complete
the move.
The key is to maximize your time
and effort and alternate between
upper-body and lower-body
exercises so that your muscles
get time to recover while you are
still active.
The workout
Warm up: Start by stretching
large and major muscle groups
such as a basic quadriceps (the
front of the thighs) stretch,
hamstring stretch or hip flexor
stretch for the lower body, and
progress to a basic chest and
back stretch. Then switch to
smaller muscle groups with basic
neck rolls, bicep and tricep
stretches.

None of us like it when a
substantial amount is deducted
from our salary as Income Tax
every month. We constantly try to
figure out various means and
ways of decreasing this tax
burden. In case an individual
doesn’t have a home loan or an
education loan, then the only
route through which he can save
taxes is by investing in
instruments under Section 80C
and 80 CCF. Overall this has a limit
of Rs. 1.20 lakhs (1 lakhs under
section 80C and Rs. 20,000 under
section 80CCF). If a person has a
CTC of Rs 5 lakhs per annum, then
the income tax on the same would
be around Rs. 34,000 under the
current income tax slabs. The
person can choose to invest Rs. 1
lakh under section 80C. He can
also choose to invest additional
Rs. 20,000 in Infra bonds to save
under section 80CCF. By investing
this amount, he can save around
Rs. 12,000 in taxes. Once all these
investments are done, the
individual still has a tax liability of
